American Soul Food goes deep into the spirit of human instinct where survival meats artistry. Over its history, it has been celebrated–but more often, when placed on the roster of American cuisine, it has been isolated to a box that is often overlooked while representing struggle and unhealthiness. In this class, dig deeper with Chef Lachelle Cunningham and discover the real narrative of this major pillar in the foundation of American Cuisine. While exploring the plant-based foundations of Soul Food cuisine and how these nostalgic flavors are built, you will learn some of the medicinal plant knowledge passed down from ancestral practitioners. During this session, Chef Lachelle will connect her personal food story to the story of her ancestors as she demonstrates creating a delicious plant-based Soul Food meal while delving into some of the healing properties of the herbs and spices used to build flavors as well as heal and restore the body.
