Artist Reception: Brooks Geenen ‘Continuum of Will’
December 7, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us to celebrate Brooks Geenen’s exhibition ‘Continuum of Will’ at Farm Table Foundation.
Geenen’s body of work aims to explore the insertion of human will on the American landscape. He is interested in the traces of human interaction within the natural world, acting as signs to tame and dominate the land through agricultural, domestic, and industrial practices. It seems that we are on a continuous course of modifying the landscape as we submit to the exercise of our collective cultural will. Every exchange we have with the environment changes its form, a progression of small measures, each one playing a role in our ever transient landscape.
Brooks Nelson Geenen (b. 1986, Minneapolis, MN) is a photographer currently living and working in Minneapolis, MN, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from the University of Minnesota. His work has been exhibited throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York, and is held in private collections. Brooks was the recipient of a 2017 Undergraduate Research grant from the University of Minnesota. Geenen’s photographs survey the on-going struggle between the natural landscape and the human desire to exploit it. His images suggest the symbiotic yet troubled quality of the relationship.
