Introduction to Plant Pollination

July 9, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
, $15.00

Two-part class:

– Monday, July 9, 5:30-7:30 PM

– Tuesday, July 10, 7-8 AM

Participants may attend either or both sessions as their schedules allow.

The Monday, July 9 evening session will look at flowering veggies with various pollination strategies to understand whether, when, and how we might need to intervene to ensure the seed we save is true to type. Then we will discuss and demonstrate the two-step hand-pollination process for squash and other cucurbits, which involves evening preparation for transferring pollen the following morning. Attendees will practice taping blossoms. The next morning Tuesday, July 10, we will review the basics of the process for new attendees, and then practice the second-step pollination process. Participants may attend either or both sessions as their schedules allow.
