Let’s Talk Grilling!

It’s summer—definitely time for grilling! And whether you consider yourself pretty accomplished or are a novice, there’s always room for improvement—and, let’s face it, for some grilling is a competitive sport. Join Sarah, our Head Chef, and Jake, one of our grill masters and cooks, as they provide tips and techniques to up your game—from the grill in Farm Table’s Learning Center! They will specifically cover grilling steaks, walleye, and brined pork chops…and there will be time for Q and A. (You’ll learn good stuff, whether you’re grilling indoors or out!) Class offered via Zoom; we’ll send you a link once you RSVP.

Instructors:

Sarah Mittelstadt is the Chef and Kitchen Manager at Farm Table Foundation, a nonprofit restaurant that seeks to grow local food culture out of Amery, WI. Sarah studied Food Systems at the University of Minnesota but fell in love with feeding people as she learned to sling bison burgers and Thai curry from the Chef Shack food truck in Minneapolis. For her, the food at Farm Table restaurant brings full circle the relationship between farmers and the land that she studied in school and the good and nourishing food she learned to surround herself with. She is absolutely committed to a homesteader’s kitchen model that creatively preserves and utilizes local fruits, vegetables, grains, and animals throughout the year. Sarah also places great importance on food that is imbued with cultural tradition and meaning—which she immerses herself in through travel (Thailand, Norway, Ireland, and more). When she’s not in the kitchen, Sarah loves to spend time swimming, gardening, and hanging out with family and friends.

Jake Teigen has cooked commercially for eight years, including five years at a steakhouse while earning his Bachelor of Science degree at UW-Stout. Jake has cooked thousands of steaks to order. His one-day record is 51 sirloins, 23 rib-eyes, and 21 bacon-wrapped fillets while also keeping up with grilled chicken and salmon. Jake has received high praise from people of all ages, and always strives to improve while experimenting with different techniques. Away from the grill, Jake is an outdoorsman and enjoys studying animal behavior and traveling with family and friends.
