Join Margaret Murphy, Horticulture Outreach Specialist with University of Wisconsin-Extension, to discuss how to prepare your garden for winter. She will cover vegetable and perennial gardens, potted and raised bed gardens, applying amendments to beds that need a boost, and go over other tips about what your garden needs in the fall…so it’ll be ready in the spring! Margaret will also touch on ways to overwinter potted plants.

Margaret Murphy currently serves as the UW Madison Division of Extension Horticulture Outreach Specialist for Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire and Polk Counties. She started in May, 2019, after relocating from Iowa where she served as Horticulture Educator for eight years with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
Margaret provides educational outreach in consumer horticulture and works with Master Gardeners. She has extensive experience in vegetable and herb gardening with a special interest in creating wildlife-friendly landscapes. Margaret has extensive experience in developing community gardens and pantry gardens. Margaret’s diverse background includes carrying out research on whales as well as on the impact of small mammals on grassland restoration. She has also worked in fisheries and endangered species management.
Margaret holds a Master of Science in Biology from Western Kentucky University, a Sustainable Food Systems Certificate from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and was certified as a Master Gardener in South Dakota in 2009.
