Terry Kelzer was working her magic in the kitchen today making the most delicious homemade ravioli with smoked chevon in honor of Goatober! Cylon Rolling Acres goat farmer and Farm Table board member Leslie Svacina even stopped in to say hello to attendees—now that’s farm to table! Farm Table Foundation (FTF) partners with the Cooked2Serve program funded by donations to Northwest Alliance Community Foundation (NACF) of Polk and Burnett Counties to provide supplemental meals to families whose children qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch.

The nourishing meal we cooked this week was Teriyaki Pork with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Turmeric Rice AND quarts of a Creamy Cauliflower, Potato, Leek Soup. These dishes are ready to heat-and-eat and are healthy and appealing to kiddos.

NACF specifically chose to work with FTF to benefit the recipients of these meals—which are high-quality, organic, and nutrient-dense—and to support the local economy through investing in the farms from which FTF sources its food.

[Nearly one in two Polk County children live in a low-income household. Poor nutrition is a major contributor to obesity and chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease which disproportionally impact low-income communities.]

Terry will honor the month of “Goatober,” when we highlight the deliciousness of all things goat! We’ll learn how to make ravioli—stuffed with tender braised spiced chevon (goat meat) along with chopped spinach and ricotta cheese.
